Summary: Screen use and eating behaviors may have a more complicated relationship than expected. In a study of 233 university students, about 41% met criteria for multiple screen addictions, and participants were assessed for eating disorder symptoms, ultra-processed food consumption, and digital healthy-diet literacy. Higher screen addiction scores were actually associated with fewer eating disorder symptoms, lower ultra-processed food consumption, and higher digital healthy-diet literacy. The findings do not establish cause and effect, but they challenge the assumption that greater screen use automatically goes hand in hand with poorer eating behaviors.
